Now is the time we’re all looking ahead to 2021 — and looking forward to when we can safely embark on those dream vacations once again.
Philadelphia continues to top must-visit lists for travel editors reflecting on where they’d like to be in the new year and the latest nod comes from none other than OG travel guide Frommer’s, which has been in continuous publication since 1957.
Most visitors know what they’ll see when they visit Independence Hall. What comes as a surprise is what they hear... — Arthur and Pauline Frommer
In their annual “Best Places to Go” list, Arthur and Pauline Frommer name Independence Hall as their chosen destination for 2021 citing the surprising and rich visitation experience thanks to Independence National Historical Park rangers’ inspiring storytelling and the relevance of the destination in an election year.
This year, Frommer’s approach to its best-of list is “not a shopping list for immediate dream vacations.” Instead, the editors tapped celebrated American authors like Gloria Steinem, David Sedaris and Sahar Mustafah to share essays about the places and spaces in the United States they hold dear in order to create “a collection of essential destinations for understanding and creating a more perfect union.”
The travel guide isn’t the only publication singing Philadelphia’s praises. Travel + Leisure’s nine-page love letter to the city highlights top food and neighborhood experiences, while Condé Nast Traveler and Fodor’s say Philly is one of the top destinations to visit in 2021.
